Typical Site Remediation projects

Groundwater Remediation
AMAI was hired on behalf of a major petroleum transporter to provide investigation and remediation services related to a 10,000 gallon gasoline spill in a residential area that impacted a local water supply. Specific tasks included:

  • Delineation of the nature and extent of soil and groundwater contamination including modeling the fate and transport of contaminants in groundwater
  • Design, construction and operation of a groundwater extraction and treatment system
  • Installation, operation and maintenance of drinking water treatment systems for a number of residential and commercial users
The State of Connecticut approved AMAI's demonstration that natural attenuation of groundwater contaminants was occurring and that the groundwater pump-and-treat system could be permanently removed from service.
Soil Remediation
AMAI designed and implemented a RCRA Corrective Action Program at an industrial facility where historical wood preservation activities impacted on-site and off-site soil and surface water sediment.
Major activities included:
  • Delineation of the nature and extent of impacted media
  • Preparation of a risk assessment to support proposed remedial options and site-specific cleanup standards
  • Implementation of a treatability study for the ex-situ stabilization of impacted soil
  • Excavation of impacted soil and site restoration of on-site and off-site residential areas

AMAI successfully negotiated with USEPA a favorable application of the "contained-in policy" resulting in the management of excavated soil from off-site areas as non-hazardous waste.
